本作是接續了 2014 年作為 Nintendo 3DS 下載專用軟體發售的《蒼藍雷霆 GUNVOLT》及 2016 年發售的《蒼藍雷霆 GUNVOLT 2》的系列正統續作。
在新主角「麒麟」與系列主角鋼伏特之間切換遊玩，身為正統 2D 動作遊戲的本作，除了保留系列中博得好評的高速 & 激昂的動作性，以及在關卡中進行對話的實況小說外，作為新要素，還追加了超過 150 種過往角色在關卡中登場輔助的「印象脈衝」。
此外，和以往同樣請到了稲船敬二先生（株式会社 LEVEL5 comcept CCO）擔任執行製作人／動作監修，作為本世代機種 Nintendo Switch 用軟體，將為玩家帶來正統進化的動作性與演出。
